The AI isolates the iris in your image and reads its actual pixel color rather than the overall impression, which is how it separates true green from hazel or gray from light blue. It identifies the dominant pigment, any secondary tones, and pattern features like rings and flecks, then maps the mix to a named category.
Good when the photo is good, and the photo matters more than people expect. Indoor lighting adds warm or cool casts that shift hue, flash washes color out, and low resolution blurs the tones the classification depends on. Shoot in daylight facing a window with no flash. Borderline results like hazel versus green are often genuinely borderline in person too.
Because perceived eye color is partly environment. Light temperature, your clothing reflecting into the iris, and pupil size (a dilated pupil leaves less visible iris, reading darker) all shift it. Hazel and light eyes swing the most. That is real, not a camera fault, and it is why the analyzer reads pigment from one controlled photo.
Brown is the global default at somewhere around 70 to 80 percent of people. Blue sits near 8 to 10 percent, hazel and amber each around 5, and true green is the headline rarity at roughly 2 percent.
